Armee de L'Air CASA CN235-200M at Wellington!

Last up for today is perhaps the most unusual visitor I have seen in a long time. It is an Armee de L'Air operated CASA CN235-200M, registration 82-IH [I'm assuming I am understanding the rego system correctly! I did see the "107" on the nose and tail, but this has appeared on other aircraft of the same type also].

The last times I saw one of these at Wellington was back in 2006, 2007 and 2008, although I did also get to look through one at the RNZAF's 75th anniversary airshow at Ohakea in 2012.

Do you think the govt is looking at a couple of these to look after the small/localised air lift solution as the C-17's seem to be pretty much a sure thing?

That's a good question Scott.

I don't know, but I'm guessing 2-3 C17's and then 3 or 4 of something else - maybe CN235's or A400M's...

I have been told these are based in French Caledonia and regularly visit Wellington airport

Hi kiwi_male. That is true... not sure what the last visit was...

This example is based at Papeete, Tahiti. The type does visit NZ several times per year and oddly chose to visit civilian places such as Auckland vs Whenuapai...
