Did you know?

"There are only 10 types of people who understand binary...
Those who do, and those who don't."

Here's another picture. This time of a CT4B at Motueka in early 2005. Nice!

CT4B at Motueka

More useless news...

OK, got everything sorted out... now you can access this site via the following three domains:

www.flying.geek.nz / flying.geek.nz
www.nzl.geek.nz / nzl.geek.nz
www.dnc.geek.nz / dnc.geek.nz

If you're planning on bookmarking any of these, I'd suggest you use the flying.geek.nz domain. I'm not sure how long I will keep the others pointing here.

BTW - the meaning of "dnc"? "Does Not Compute" :-)

Can we do it? Yes ICANN!

OK, it's a corny title...

I managed to spend a couple of morning at the recent ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) conference in Wellington this past week. Nothing too exciting as I was manning a display rather than attending presentations and so forth...

One very good point however was that Domainz [www.domainz.net.nz] were giving away free ".geek.nz" urls - free for a year anyway.

Needless to say, I picked up a couple. Now when you enter www.dnc.geek.nz or www.nzl.geek.nz [nz.geek.nz was taken...] you will automatically come to this site. Nice! I'll see over the next year whether I want to keep the domains or give them up.

I've got a plans for some cool things to do with them, but we will see what eventuates. Any suggestions are most welcome!

Actually, I'm also looking for a cheap host for the web sites - leave a comment if you have any ideas.

Anyway, a post would not be decent without a picture. This one is of New Zealand's AWESOME Thunder Mustang. Check out the official web site at www.kiwithunder.com. Well worth a look!

Crazy Aviation

Check out this Crazy Aviation link [also on the right of this page] - loads of awesome pictures and many Mb's of movies! The best content are the movies, such as the boy-racer B747's and the guy who DELIBERATELY set his parachute alight [yep, flames]!

Wild and Woolly in Wellington

It's probably the worst day weather-wise in Wellington this evening. Wind gusts up to 120km/hr with the airport reporting winds of 60-63 knots [111-116 km/hr] on several occasions. Seas are running at 8-9 meter swells [Cook Strait ferries are cancelled for the evening].

Needless to say, this makes for some awesome sights ready to be photographed. Shame I'm not much good with the camera - most of the ones I got were of a car windscreen covered in seaspray... doh! I did take a couple standing up outside, but couldn't keep the camera still enough... anyway, here's one that turned out all right [It doesn't really do justice to the situation, but never mind] during a calmer period.

Wild and Woolly in WellingtonIn fairness this is by far the worst day so far, and it's been like this in a few places around New Zealand [I realise that one or two of you are ready to defend the lovely Wellington weather to the death... :-) ], but it's still bad.

My flat has been shaken in the wind a few times, but all in one piece so far!

Formation Fun at Auckland

Three Grummans [ZKFVS, ZKFPA, ZKFVA] near Ardmore airfieldHere's a picture from a formation sortie while I was based at Ardmore airfield near Auckland. The picture was taken near Ardmore on the way out to the Hauraki Gulf for a practice.

Typical sortie was around 1 hour including the trip out and in, plus a run through of the display sequence.
