This is is video made by an Australian air traffic controller [not sure what airport]. It is, as he says several times, unbelievable! It's a fully loaded Ilyushin II-76 cargo plane using every last inch of the runway.
Perhaps the best part of the video is the controller's commentary :-)
Enjoy!
That's awesome.
ReplyDelete"We have smirnoff" :-) Yeah - very funny!
ReplyDeleteI was watching the traffic on the road at the end of the runway - hoping no large trucks would appear!
ReplyDeleteWow, I bet the ATC were crapping themselves just watching that!! Cool vid...
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to figure out what airport it is. They instruct the pilot to contact (Melbourne) Approach on 125.9, so it could be anywhere in south eastern Australia.
ReplyDeleteIt looks reasonable "rural". My guess is a military ad [note the choppers parked beside the tower]. Could be a combined military/civil ad?
ReplyDeleteThat sort of aircraft could easily have transporting military goods...
According to a couple of aussie pilots its Canberra before they put the runway extensions in.
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks for the update mate.
ReplyDeleteMy god!!!!! Thats a great video! Love the commentry! "I hope Ive got enough film for the crash" they way he said that was just classic!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely Canberra. RAAF base Fairbairn shares runways with Canberra International Airport. The comment "It's not over" is because an ascent in that Northern direction requires climbing over Mt Ainslie and Mt Majura, seen in the mid distance in the clip.
ReplyDeleteHi Robert,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, especially the clarification around the two mountains.
Cheers,
Rodney
