New Zealand Post Fokker Friendship

Here are two pictures of a New Zealand Post Fokker F27 Friendship departing Wellington. I think that this is the first time I have captured an F27 at Wellington. It was a bit of a fluke seeing this one, as I was only at the airport to see if I could see the Civil Defence warning chopper.

  1. Nice catch Rodney - she arrived into Woodbourne from Wellington so once again we have two F27s on the ground here, until the scheduled Post20 departure at 2130.

  2. So that's where it went! The last time I captured an F27 was a short flight from Auckland where I saw it depart and return in the space of a few minutes.

It has been many years since I flew in an F27 - probably a Wanganui-Taupo[?]-Auckland flight many, many years ago [that should help date things a bit!] as a kid.

  3. Fed Ex via their feeder Mountain Air Cargo used to have a base at KAND about two miles from my house which lies under the ILS path.

    They based the Fk-27-500's .

The RR Dart has a very special ( LOUD ) sound. I love it. You could never mistake it. Especially late at night.

I really miss the Whistle Pigs.

  4. That noise will be why they were also nicknamed "The Converter" - it converts jet fuel into noise! :-)
