More from London City!

Yesterday I traveled from London City airport to Rotterdam The Hague (EHRD, Netherlands of course). Again it was a British Airways/ BA Cityflyer flight, this time in an Embraer ERJ-170-100STD, G-LCYE. This is a cool little aircraft, and certainly the smallest turbofan aircraft I've ever flown in.

While waiting for the flight I got a number of photos, including a Dassault Falcon 8X, F-WWQA. This aircraft is the first every 8X built, is owned by the manufacturer and was here on a test flight [I'm guessing to certify for steep approaches?]. The first I saw of it, it was overshooting, followed by a landing a few minutes later. Nice!

Next up is a Bombardier DHC-8-402, LX-LGF, which is operated by Luxair.

A type I am very unfamiliar with, and an airline I had not seen before is up next. This is a Donier 328-100, HB-AEO. This is operated by SkyWork Aviation. I have seen a Dornier 328 once before, in 2009 in Salzburg, Austria.

Cityjet is operating this British Aerospace Avro 146-RJ85, EI-RJI, which is operated by Cityjet.

Last up is my ride to Rotterdam, a Bristi Airways/ BA Cityflyer Embraer ERJ-170-100STD, G-LCYE. These are an awesome looking small jet, and reasonably comfortable [although reasonably cramped] for the 45 minute flight.

Aviation quiz # 6 - Answer

Well done to Nick who provided the wanted details, summarised as follows:

The aircraft was the Dornier Do-X. It had 12 engines. On one flight, the plane took off carrying 169 people consisting of 150 passengers, 10 crew and 9 stowaways.

Anything interesting fact is that despite all those engines, they regularly overheated, and the aircraft often had difficulty getting much above 250 feet AGL... ouch!

Air West Coast Dornier Do 228

This Air West Coast Dornier Do 228 was spotted at Wellington today. ZK-VIR is a "one of type" on the New Zealand register and has been operated by Air West Coast for under a year. Having previously seen inside the aircraft it has spacious seating and so is probably quite comfortable for most passengers. Not sure how noisy the cabin is though - those two Garrett turbines are hardly what you would call quiet...

More Dornier DO228 pictures...

After my initial post of a couple of days ago, here are some more pictures of the Air West Coast Dornier DO228. As in my last post, this is the only DO228 in the country at this time, although apparently there were some around a few years ago.

This aircraft is very very nice inside. There are only 14 passenger seats installed [down from a maximum of 19 that could be put on], so there is heaps of leg room. The seats are comfortable also. I'm not sure what the noise levels would be like with a couple of Garrett turbo-props just outside the windows [and it is extremely noisy outside when it starts up!], but I'm told it's not too bad.

Outside, it has a huge nose [baggage compartment] and is quite square, but still a really nice looking aircraft.

Enjoy the pics!

This Dornier DO 228 [registered as ZK-VIR] is a one-of-type on the New Zealand register. In fact, according to the operator's website, it only came "on line" today.
