Air Pacific in Wellington???!

A huge surprise today was to see an Air Pacific flight departing Wellington. I'm not going to say this is the first time they have operated into here, but it's certainly the first time I have seen them at Wellington [it looks as though Air Pacific may have operated into Wellington around 10 years ago? Can anyone confirm any details?]. Curiously, the flight information indicated it was only heading to Christchurch and not back to Fiji. If anyone has more information, I would appreciate it - perhaps it was filling in for another operator?

Anyway, the aircraft is a Boeing 737-7X2, DQ-FJF and is seen here leaving runway 34 earlier today.

I felt sure I had snapped Air Pacific at Wellington relatively recently, but a quick search proves otherwise. The latest I have is 2001. http://www.zkarj.co.nz/aviation/opgal.php?op=airpac

Looks like they operated the scheduled FJ451 (NAN-CHC) via Wellington. Not sure though if it was a medical diversion or a scheduled stop due to concerns with potential ash/eqnz related issues.

Hi Rodders,

I have it on good authority that this aircraft diverted to WN after some FG unexpectedly rolled in at CH. A number of other flights were similarly affected.

The aircraft continued to CH when the WX cleared and subsequently completed its schedule by returning (late) to NFFN.

Cheers.

Air Pacific certainly have operated WLG-Fiji in the past...used them to go to Nadi and back during April 2001. And maybe not surprising, it was onboard DQ-FJF both ways!

I can confirm the Fog in CHC caused the diversion of FJ450. The fog rolled in at CHC at 1035 and cleared by 1215 hours. There were several occasions when one jet landed but the second and third missed the approach while the fourth one landed. A few propellor aircraft missed and diverted as well. Major mahem for the airlines.
