One of the great things about
Flying NZ comps is the opportunity to catch up with other pilots - most of whom you won't have seen for 6 - 12 months. This year I was the only Wellington Aero Club competitor and stayed with the
Hawkes Bay & East Coast Aero Club team in Orewa. A lot of fun, but as they say,
what goes on tour stays on tour.

Nice pics. That Cessna 172B looks odd. I don't think I've seen such a model before. The gear and fin look unfamiliar compared to a 'normal' one.
Yeah, it is pretty old. Apparently it also has a fairly heavy Continental engine, which may help to explain why it almost invariably landed on its nose wheel... :-(
Its torque link stop had broken. Look closely at extension of oleo in photo.
