I got one flying photo...

I've just gone through the few photos I took on my DSLR at the recent Flying NZ National Championships. I had a sum total of one airborne aircraft on it :-) To be fair, I had a couple of photos of the flight lines also...

ZK-FPG is a Cessna 152 and is registered to Tauranga Aero Club. here it is about to touch down on Wednesday.

Next up are two pictures of the flight line. The first includes the main North Shore Aero Club office and other facilities, the second is the parking aero on the cross runway, which was closed for the event.

High wing aircraft at Timaru

I'm starting to struggle with ideas for how to divide the photos up, so here are some of the high wing aircraft [aside from those Piper Super Cubs previously published...] that were at the competitions.

Obviously, most of them will be Cessna's, but I'll start with something a little different.

First up is a Rans S-6ES Coyote II, ZK-TPC, which is registered to a Temuka address.

Next up is a Cessna A150L, ZK-TWT, which is operated by South Canterbury Aero Club, the host aero club of this year's Nationals.

Next up is a Cessna A152, ZK-TAY, which is operated by Tauranga Aero Club. As with the previous aircraft, the "A" means it is aerobatic.

ZK-ELS is also a Cessna A152, this time operated by Kapiti Aero Club.

Now on to the Cessna 172's. ZK-EOI is a Cessna 172N and is operated by North Otago Aero Club.

Next up is a Cessna 172M, Zk-DKM. This is registered to a Whanganui address and was flown by a competitor from the Wanganui Aero Club.

Last, but certainly not least, is this Tecnam P2008, ZK-ZZB, which is operated by Hawkes Bay & East Coast Aero Club. Since mid January, it has been re-designated as a class 2 microlight, having previously been registered as an LSA [Light Sport Aircraft].

Cessna A152

Today's photo is of a Cessna A152, ZK-NPL, which is operated by Tauranga Aero Club.

The "A152" means that it is an aerobatic model. If you look closely at the front of the door, you can see the emergency door release cable. I understand that the aircraft is here on a short visit for some maintenance [and certainly needing something given the state of the nose wheel oleo...].

In other news, I had time for another quick flight today in a Club Cessna 172S, ZK-CEO. It was just a quick flight around the local area since I hadn't flown for about 3 weeks [since my night cross country flight test to Palmerston North and back].

Flying NZ National championships: A place to stay and various aircraft

One of the great things about Flying NZ comps is the opportunity to catch up with other pilots - most of whom you won't have seen for 6 - 12 months. This year I was the only Wellington Aero Club competitor and stayed with the Hawkes Bay & East Coast Aero Club team in Orewa. A lot of fun, but as they say, what goes on tour stays on tour.
