The Bell UH-1H Iroquois is the RNZAF's main helicopter, and, like the Bell 47 Sioux, put on a good display for the crowd. This included the low-level approach from the south followed by demonstrations of their manoeuvrability. Unfortunately no dropping of cars or rappelling troops this time.
The Iroquois is a old helicopter but has continued to serve the Air Force, and the country, very well for many years in New Zealand and overseas. It is due to be replaced during 2010 and 2011 with the NATO Helicopter Industries NH90.
In the final photo, the two aircraft are passing only about 1 rotor-width apart!
